This game was a vast disappointment to me and harked back to the early days of Cryo adventure games punctuated by pretty graphics and pretty lame story line. This game has a wealth of information for the person interested in Viking life, but as an adventure, it left me cold. There was a little plot development but little feel for the characters, even your own, Hjallmar. I found myself uncertain about what I was supposed to be doing a lot of the time. As a result of this, the game tends to follow this format: click on everyone, use the help key to learn about all your inventory times, use the inventory items as directed in help. The game also takes very little thinking. Almost every puzzle is a matter of pick this up and put it down there. Very little puzzle-solving to determine what to do with inventory items. I found this game boring, buoyed only by the interesting legacy of Viking culture. This is reflected in the brevity of my walkthrough.

Viking Trading

Put all people you can into your inventory. When requested by Leif, drag the sword onto him. Trying to drag the sword to my inventory resulted in a "script error" but caused no unnecessary concern. Speak to all of the people in the street, ensuring you put them in inventory. This may seem strange, but this is how you will send the skilled workers to work in various parts of the Viking world. At the market, speak to (and put in inventory) all people you can. Click on the man with the pulley to help him unload his ship. Then you can talk with him. Put all people on the map in their designated areas. Using the "?" with each of your inventoried people will show where in the Viking world they should work. The final part of riddle one involves loading your ship with goods for the shaman. Load your ship with walrus ivory, polar bear skins, falcons, Christian reliquary, and vadmal. Before you can get the vadmal, though, you must drag the cloth to the weavers who will make the vadmal. A short cutscene plays, and it's on to riddle 2.

Boat Building

Pick up the windlass and rudder from the weaver's house. Use the lamp in Leif's hut to find and take the rudder. At the market, drag the iron ore into the bucket. In the blacksmith's, click repeatedly on Sven until there are no more items being made. He will make a wind vane, an anchor, rivet pins, and a rail. Drag the ax to Thorgeist in the market. In the forest, drag Thorgeist to the tree and logs. Take the planks and wood. Give the oak to the carpenters to make planks and beams. Pick these up. Time to build the boat. Drag the items in this order to the men on the boat: planks, strakes, floor frames, beams, rivet pins, gusset plate, more planks, lypting, mast step, tar. The boat is let into the water. Use the anchor to secure it. Continue to place parts: windlass, mast, yard, rudder, oars, wind vane. Return to Bergen to collect the sail. Drag it onto the boat. A video cutscene plays. On to riddle 3.

Navigation

This is the way to Iceland: go forward four times, turn right, go forward once. Then turn left, go forward eight times. Turn right and go forward three times. In the devastated village area, click on Thorgeist to put him in inventory. Pick up the ax and the grain. Drag Thorgeist to the houses to repair them. Go to the forest. Click the ax on the tree to create many piles of wood. Drag these pieces of wood to various areas to rebuild the village. Collect the hunting bow and the meat. Drag the mud to the smithy. Pick up the fishing supplies, sheep, pig, butter, and cheese. Give the pig and sheep to the people near the grass-covered house. When they have converted it, take the skin and wool. Use the seed on the field. Drag the scythe to the field to harvest the wheat. Pick up the wheat. Take all supplies to the storehouse at any time. Go to the coast. Give the hunter the bow. Pick up the fish and eggs. Cut up the whale and load the meat on the boat. Collect the whale meat. Return to the storehouse. Put the meat in the storehouse. A video cutscene starts, and the riddle is complete.

Judgment

Give the cloth to the people at the Skali. Collect the tent and branch. Put all people in your inventory, including the logsogumadr on the coast. Go to the Thing. At the Thing, use the branch and then the tent. Put the logsogumadr on the top of the rock at left. Click on the people in the court to hear the charges. Drag Kohl to testify for you first and then Ingirid. Drag the people from your inventory into the circle next. At the end, you must examine the judgment stone and complete it to determine your fate. The blanks should read the following: wife, anger, men, servant, affection, destruction, ivory, walrus, shaman, fury, end, accusations, men, Greenland. A video cutscene plays, and the riddle ends.

Fortifying the Ship

You are immediately thrown into the thick of battle and must make some changes to the ship to make it battle-worthy. You must move the supplies on board to access the planks, crow's nest, and beams. Attach the crow's nest to the top of the boat. Fasten the beams and planks to the rear of the boat. Prepare yourself mentally for some strategy ...

Sea Battle

The goal is to get your ship to the upper left of the screen (a white line shows you where you need to get to). Use the wind where possible or row when you can't. Attack the other boats where necessary.

Knattleikr Game

At the fjord, take the pig. Give it to the butcher in the smithy. Take the planks and the support piles for use at the rink. Take the pig's blood and the ball. Give the blood to the game official at the rink. Give Ragnar the ball in the Jol Hall. Return to the smithy to get the ice skates. At the port, drag the figurehead to the sled. It is taken to the game. Go to Ingolf's house. Collect the bat. Play the game of Knattleikr (kind of like baseball or cricket). First to 12 wins. When you win, you are treated to the next video cutscene.

Halatafel Game

Enter the funeral ship. Take Thor's hammer. Open the box and take the scrying sticks. Go to the smithy and give them to Eldgrim. Take the barrel of wax (which magically appears). Use the barrel at the entrance to the funeral ship. When the giant arrives, throw the hammer at him. You are now up against Saeun and must play a game like checkers or draughts. One solution is as follows if you consider the spaces on the board as numbered from 1 to 33:

You then go to Vinland in a video cutscene.

Runes

Move the things around at the port to find Ingmar's hammer. Open the chest and take the rune stone. Take the hammer and use it to open the oven. Use the rune stone on rune stone in the oven. Four runes must be moved. The highlighted words in the saying should read: granted, strength, accompany, and fruit. When done, the next video cutscene plays.

World of the Gods

Drag all people to the inventory. Enter the Tree of Life. Put the people on the levels of the tree. Move quickly, though, as this puzzle is timed. When complete, you see the evil gods banished from Earth. You walk into the sunset with your love. Breathe a sigh of relief--it's over!
