Lure of the Temptress
Walkthrough

There's not much to say about this game, as the game itself is very small. It's one of those adventures that you find when you're wandering around the net, play it for one afternoon, finish it and erase. But that doesn't mean it's boring or bad, not at all, it's just that what's good doesn't really last very much anyway.

NOTES:

  • To access the menu of saving, loading, etc. move the mouse to the top of the screen.
  • To LOOK, left-click on something. To see other commands (including use items), right-click on something.
  • Right-clicking anywhere will let you do things like: Drink something, Examine your items, Look around and see your Status.

PRISON

Your goal here is to escape from the prison (!). You start inside a small cell. There's a crack on the wall; look through it and you'll see an imprisoned boy being harassed by Skorls. Try to get the torch or pull it, and it will fall in the straw and burn it. Be prepared: when the Skorl enters the cell, get out, close and lock the door.

Out of the cell, there's a man hanging on the wall; talk to him and he'll ask for water. Go trough the door on the right. Look at the barrel, then get the knife on the top of it. Take the bottle on the right, then use your knife on the sack. Look at the sack again to find 1 groat (money). Use the bottle on the barrel's tap.

Go back to the man hanging on the wall and give him the bottle. He reveals his name (Wulf) and asks you to find the blacksmith in town; he also tells you about the secret passage on the wall. Go trough the door on the right again and go on to the next door.

Use the knife on the leather cord to free the boy (Ratpouch).

Some words about Ratpouch: He will follow you wherever you go, and you can tell him to do many things for you. He is very useful through the game.

Go back to the room with Wulf and look at the loose bricks at the right wall. You can't pull the bricks yourself; tell Ratpouch to pull the bricks, and enter the passage.

TOWN

FREEING GOEWIN

After falling trough the hole, follow the entrances until you get to a huge gate with two statues in both sides. Go left and you're on the village.

NOTE: It is a good idea now to walk around and talk to people until you get yourself used to the village.

Your first goal is to find the blacksmith. You can find him in his house, near The Pub 'Severed Arms'; just go down one screen and enter the door at your left. If he's not there, wait a little and he will appear. Talk to him and tell him you escaped from the Skorl; he'll ask you to find the girl, Goewin. Talk to him again to ask where she was last seen: Magpie tavern. Take the tinderbox in the floor.

ATTENTION: Sometimes the tinderbox wouldn't appear and I had to start the game all over again. If this happened to you, I'm sorry. I have no idea why it happens.

Go to the tavern 'Magpie'; it's in the square, the door with a bird sign. Talk to the man sitting at the center of the room (Morkus). Bribe him, and then talk to him again. He'll tell you that the girl was taken by the Skorl. Go back to the blacksmith to tell him the bad news; he will tell you to talk to Grub.

Grub is the old man lying outside the Magpie. Talk to him twice and ask him if he knows about the Black Goat. He will tell you that you need the assistance of Taidgh, the magician, and he will give you a lock pick.

Taidgh's house is the house outside Ewan's shop, west of the square. Look at the door to see the lock, and try to use the lock pick on it; you can't do it. Time to use Ratpouch: give the lock pick to Ratpouch and tell him to Use Lock pick on Lock. Enter the house and look at the Apparatus; seems like a dead end, but no problem. Let's make the thing work.

NOTE: If the Skorl locks the door again, tell Ratpouch to use the lock pick on the lock again.

The stranger walking around town in a green jacket is called Mallin. Find him and talk to him; accept the job he offers to you. He will give you a metal bar. Take it to Ewan the shopkeeper to win some coins and a Gem. Go to the 'Magpie' tavern and give the Gem to Nellie, the bartender; she'll give you a full flask. To empty the flask, give it to Luthern (the blacksmith).

Go to the 'Severed Arms' and talk to Eileain, the woman drinking and knitting, and ask about Taidgh; she'll give you a diary. Examine it.

If you have read the book, got the tinderbox and the empty flask, you are ready to operate the apparatus. Go to Taidgh's house and look at the apparatus; you should distinguish the oil-burner. Light the oil-burner using the tinderbox and use the empty flask on the tap (move the mouse on the apparatus until you find it).

After you've got the liquid on the flask, drink it and you will turn into Selena.

Go to the Town Hall (the building being guarded by a Skorl) and enter it. Talk to the Skorl to free the girl. Walk around the village until you're back to normal. Talk to the people to see their reaction (and to see some of them betray you too).

Goewin is free!

SEEKING THE DRAGON

By now you should've noticed the sign outside the monks' place (near the big statue); if you didn't, it says that a reward will be given to the one who bring back a book that was stolen. Walk around and find Mallin. He will give a book, and ask you to give it to Morkus. Instead of giving it to Morkus, take it to the monks to receive a small statue as a reward. Talk to Brother Toby (the tall one) and ask about defeating Selena; he will tell you about a spell that's made mixing three herbs: Houndstooth, Cowbane and Elecampane.

Go to the Herbs shop (the one with a flower sign), talk to Goewin about the mix of herbs and answer the right one (Houndstooth, Cowbane and Elecampane). She will tell you that she's out of Cowbane. Go to Luthern's house and ask Catriona (Luthern's mother) about Cowbane. Go outside and get some Cowbane (blue flower); take it to Goewin. Walk around the village while you wait for Goewin to make the potion, then go and get it when it's ready.

Talk to Ultar, the barbarian, at the Severed Arms, to ask him about the dragon. He will tell you that you have to talk to the gargoyles to open the gate, and their names are Fengael and Hammawen. Go to the huge wooden door with two gargoyle statues, and talk to them; they will tell you that only a girl can enter. Go to the Herbs Shop and talk to Goewin. Meet her at the gate and talk to her again; the gate will open, so enter it.

Now there's a little puzzle of pulling skulls: Inside the entrance cave, Pull the Left Skull, then the Right Skull. Go to the next room (Green Cave). Tell Goewin to Go To Entrance Cave and then Pull the Left Skull. The next door will open for you, go trough it (Blue Cave). Pull the Right Skull, Pull the Left Skull and wait for Goewin. Tell Goewin to Go To Green Cave and Pull the Right Skull. The door to the Red Cave should open; Go through it.

ATTENTION: Sometimes, because of the position of the skulls, Goewin don't have the option to pull them. Go back to the cave and repeat the process until you get it right.

In the Red Cave, prepare yourself for a fight (In another words, save your game). Go trough the next entrance to meet your enemy, the Beast. The fighting system is very simple:

  • To attack and defend, put the mouse over Diermot; left-clicking is attack and right-clicking is defense;
  • Depending on the position of the mouse, the attacks and defenses are different:
    • For a high attack and defense, the mouse must be over his head;
    • For a medium attack and defense, the mouse must be on his body;
    • For a low attack and defense, the mouse must be on his legs.
  • To move Diermot, put the mouse away from him and it will turn into NA arrow.

It should be piece of cake to defeat the Beast. After you kill it, go through the next door. Here's where the dragon sleeps; use the potion on him and then talk to him. After you ask for his help to defeat Selena, he'll give you the Eye of Gethryn, capable of destroying Selena.

To get out of the cave, go back pulling the left skulls; the door to the outside is already open.

Walk around, find Mallin and talk to him. He'll tell you to watch the Skorl patrols. Go to street outside Ewan's shop and wait until a Skorl enters the shop, then look trough the window. Now it's your chance to get into the castle: When the Skorl go away, enter the shop and talk to Ewan. You will be taken to the castle inside the barrel.

SELENA'S CASTLE

Now you're in the cellar of Selena's castle. Look at one of the casks on the left wall to see the bung. Go upstairs to enter the kitchen. Look the carcass upon the table and get fat. Get the tongs hanging on the wall. Go back downstairs and use the tongs on the bung to open it. Talk to the boy that is wandering around (Minnow); doesn't really matter what you say, as long as he calls his master to the cellar. Now hide away behind a pillar in the background and wait until the Skorl comes in and start drinking; run away from the room.
Go trough the kitchen to the passage. Don't go upstairs; enter the door in front of you. Go trough the dining room and enter the Gate Room (don't worry about the Skorl, they're drunk). Use the fat on the lever so you can pull it. Talk to Minnow then Tell him to Pull the Lever, while you Operate the winch.

Go back through the dining room, to the passage and go upstairs. There's going to be another ax fight, so you should save your game here. Go trough the dining room until you're at the bridge. Defeat the Beast again and go trough the door.

Now just sit back and enjoy the ending (if that can be called an ending).
