UBI SOFT
MAKES LONG-TERM COMMITMENT
TO THE MYST® BRAND
Ubi Soft
and Cyan Worlds, Inc. extend partnership
to cover the Myst® franchise through 2008
San Francisco, CA - October 8, 2002 - Ubi Soft® Entertainment, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced today an agreement to extend its partnership with Cyan Worlds, Inc. to develop and publish new games for the Myst® franchise through 2008. The deal ensures that Rand Miller, co-creator of Myst and founder of Cyan Worlds, Inc., will continue to play a central role in helping Ubi Soft develop the Myst series. It also furthers Ubi Soft's ability to produce and market games for a wide audience.
"Since its first release in 1993, Myst has become one of the best-selling video games of all time. Ubi Soft continues to build on this success and has recently expanded the brand to new generation consoles," said Yves Guillemot, President and CEO of Ubi Soft Entertainment. "By renewing our partnership with Cyan Worlds, Inc., we demonstrate our long-term commitment to one of the world's leading video game brands. Working hand in hand with Cyan Worlds, Inc., we plan to continue to surprise and delight fans of the Myst series of games for years to come."
"Our partnership with Ubi Soft is exciting to us, primarily because they're excited about what Myst represents, and the potential it holds," said Rand Miller, founder of Cyan Worlds, Inc. "This isn't about Cyan Worlds making games that Ubi Soft sells, it's about Cyan Worlds and Ubi Soft working together to build new forms of entertainment around and beyond the worlds of Myst."
Myst's diverse fan base
is comprised of men and women of all age groups. With their lush cinematic
environments and beautifully orchestrated, original sound tracks,
Myst and its sequels Riven® and Myst®
III: Exile are among the strongest titles in Ubi Soft's catalog
of games. The games' popularity stems from their ease of use as well
as their nonviolent, visually stunning atmosphere. Players can safely
immerse themselves into the game, discover a lost universe and use
their wits and intuition to solve imaginative puzzles.
With 11 million copies sold worldwide, sales continue to rise for both consoles and PCs. Myst III: Exile, the third installment of the game, was just released on September 26 for the new generation of consoles. The next step in the Myst adventure will be taken in 2003 by ubi.com, Ubi Soft's online arm, when it launches an entirely new online adventure set in the recently discovered city of D'ni. The online game is designed to appeal to both avid online gamers as well as more casual players.
