Hi Randy,
Just read your State of Adventure Gaming article (March) and I
have to
point out another way that people get the idea that gamers are just
idiots
that only are into violent oriented games. That way is ads at local
movie
houses. Here are hundreds of adults watching a trailer for the latest
and
greatest blood and gore game to come down the pike and I'm sitting
there
sort of wincing in pain because of it.
Don't get me wrong, I like first person shooters but I don't play
them
constantly all the time. I much prefer my adventure games but with
big
public ads running in movie theaters, it is no wonder people think
of gamers
as immature idiots only interested in massive amounts of violence.
I feel that the gaming industry is cutting their own throats by
running such
ads. It can only lead to more of a backlash agains games in general.
They
constantly say it is all just entertainment, which is fine, but showing
such
"
entertainment" to large numbers of adults who really have
no idea what is happening in computer games can lead to nothing else
but a
large negative reaction.
