AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH BROKEN SWORD STARS GEORGE AND NICOLE Interview

Conducted by Randy Sluganski

Hot on the heels of their newest critically acclaimed adventure - Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon – we managed to obtain an exclusive interview with the stars of the Broken Sword series, George and Nicole.

From the moment they first met in Shadow of the Templars  to their re-teaming in The Smoking Mirror, George and Nicole have become the most celebrated couple in adventure gaming.

It was indeed a pleasure to sit across from these reclusive superstars and ask the questions that have haunted adventure gamers for years.

  • George - Broken Sword Sleeping Dragon - click to enlargeGeorge, what do you do for a living back in Iowa when you are not adventuring?
  • George: I’m a patent lawyer.

Nico: He’s much more at home living the quiet life, isn’t that right George?

George: No – it is not! There’s nothing quiet about patents, in fact –

    Nico: George…

George: What? Ah. You’re… kidding me aren’t you Nico? She’s just kidding me. She does that.

  • Looking back at what has transpired, would you still go on that trip to France?

George: You bet, but this time I’d fit in a trip to the Follies Bergere.

    Nico: Typical!

  • You seem to have beefed up since your last adventure. To what do you attribute your new physique?

George: Good food, clean living and plenty of exercise.

    Nico: Clean living, huh, George?

George: Let’s just say – Iowa’s a great vacation state and I make the most of it.

  • Nicole, you always look so fresh and vibrant. Is there a secret to maintaining your youthful look?

Nico: I think French women just have an instinct for looking chic.

George: I always said you were a good looking chick.

  • Nicole, is there anything George does that sometimes puts him in that ‘Ugly American’ category?

George: She loves everything about me.

Nico: Except when he answers my questions for me.

  • Looking back, would you still have agreed to help George investigate the explosion at the Cafe?

Nico: I always looked on it as George helping me to get my story.

    George: Yeah, right...

  • You have both made incredibly clever use of the simple objects around you. You knew exactly what was significant and what could be useful later. How were you able to do this, is it some sort of an adventurer's instinct?

Nico: I like to think that in my case it was my natural intellect and a flair for inspired inventiveness.

    George: Yeah, me too.

  • You have also both traveled to many interesting and exotic destinations. Are there any you would like to return to strictly as a tourist?

George: Oh, plenty. Trouble is – I turn up someplace as a tourist, but it never seems to stay that way…

Nico: America, I think. George always tells me he’s just mister ordinary American. I want to find out if it’s true…

  • Nicole- Broken Sword Sleeping Dragon - click to enlargeWho were, in your opinions, some of the more memorable characters you’ve encountered during your adventures?

George: Clown with a bomb tends to stay in the memory…

Nico: I’m still having nightmares about the General I met in Quaramonte – ugh, what a creep!

  • First the Knights Templar and then the Aztecs. You have both seen things most people do not even believe in. After these experiences, do you give tales of the supernatural more credit? Do you believe in the existence of higher forces in our world?

George: You wanna know if there’s higher forces at work in the world? Take a look at Nico’s credit card bill.

    Nico: Hey!

George: Seriously. From what we’ve seen we’d be fools not to believe.

  • George, was there ever a moment of self-doubt? Perhaps when that assassin pointed his gun at you at the edge of that cliff? Or maybe when Tezcatlipoca was about to step out of the mirror? And what about you Nicole, did the seemingly insurmountable challenges ever make you want to give up?

Nico: Sure. But whenever I felt like that I reminded myself why I was doing it.

    George: Which was?

Nico: To save the world, of course.

    George: Not for me then?

  • Previews of your new computer adventure can now be seen in movie theatres. Do you think there is a chance that the both of you might someday appear together in a film adaptation of your adventures?

George: Guess it all depends if Brad Pitt’s available.

    Nico: In your dreams, George.

  • A question for both of you – how do you feel about finally being realized in 3D?

George: It’s added a whole new dimension to our relationship.

Nico: Unfortunately, it’s not given George any more depth.

  • So what does the future hold for George & Nicole? More adventures or possibly a romantic interlude?

    George: I’m not sure. Unless...

    Nico: Unless what?

George: Unless you've got a better idea, Nico?

    Nico: Meaning?

George: Well, I dunno... You're the one with the brains, right?

Nico: So it's up to me, is it?!

George: No, I just want us to be clear who wants what round here...

Nico: Well how about you just tell me?

    George: Oh typical.

    Nico: I'm not a mind-reader, George!

George: You obviously expect me to be...

Thank you both for this rare opportunity to delve into your lives outside your Broken Sword adventures and let’s hope that the success of Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon inspires even more tales of adventure.
