Madrid-based studio Protocol Games continues development of its survival horror game despite some rough patches

There is something to be said for intestinal fortitude. Here's a bit of history...

Song of Horror first appeared in June 2015 when Protocol Games launched a Kickstarter campaign for the game. Unfortunately, it was unsuccessful.

In November 2015, a second Kickstarter campaign was launched. It also fell short of its goal.

In May 2016, Song of Horror was awarded the People's Choice Three Headed Monkey Award by Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

And now, with new environments and characters not previously seen, Protocol has released a new teaser trailer for your viewing (and listening) pleasure. The studio has also revamped the game's website, which will be frequently updated.

The game's focus is on its narrative, influenced by horror masters such as Poe, Lovecraft and M.R. James; on The Presence, the game’s relentless AI -- capable of procedurally generating dangers of all kinds -- and on the permanent death of its cast. There are 16 playable characters; once one is killed, it's gone, and you will inhabit another. Throughout the game, you will also control protagonist Daniel Noyer.

Song of Horror seeks to capture the dread of classics such as Alone in the Dark and Resident Evil. There is no prize for first arrival at the end of the line; the prize is to arrive at all.

The game is to be released by publisher Badland Games next spring on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
