Marko Tominić of Tanais Games has assured us that switching from 2D to 2.5D in the point-and-click horror game Saint Kotar will not ruin anything. The decision was made after months of testing and brainstorming. The team feels that 2.5D will permit fluid, natural movement and animation as well as dynamic lighting and shadows, increased immersiveness and a better overall experience.

For those who would like some elaboration, a lengthy, detailed blog entry concerning the issue is posted here. Comments -- both pro and con -- are welcome.

In Saint Kotar, two protagonists travel to a town of the same name to attend an exhibition of rare medieval art. They are suddenly pulled into a macabre series of murders, allegedly related to Satanic worship and witchcraft. These dreadful acts compel the protagonists to follow the shadow of something deeply hidden behind the town’s dark past.

Tanais Games is working on a playable demo to be released concurrently with a Kickstarter campaign planned for late June or early July of this year. Saint Kotar is to be released for Windows, Mac and Linux at a date TBD.
